Home Improvement

I'm tired. Why do I have to hold this 2x4??

Saturday stop at Home Depot

Poop Karma

Ever yell when faced with a seemingly impossible-to-clean diaper/baby bum?  Jill had been wearing Seventh Generation diapers this weekend to clear up a rash.  They're great (her rash is gone) but when they're full, they are full, meaning one extra pee or poop and things get messy.  Jill peed on my Mom Saturday at my brother's house and pooped on me Saturday night at home.  It came quickly down her pant leg and pooled on the floor.  I screamed!  I didn't mean to but it completely took me by surprise.  My yell startled Jill and she started to cry.  This made me feel completely awful.

This diaper change was a two-person job.  Tony helped as I drew a bath (there was no use for wipes).  After bathtime, I came downstairs to find my flip flops.  I stepped directly in Jill's runny poop, up through my toes and everything.  It was a lesson in poop karma.  Don't scream - under any circumstances - in poopy situations!  It will come back to haunt you!

Go Patriots!

I remember the day clearly.  Last year - December 6 - the Patriots were on - I watched them blow the game in between yelling through contractions.  And later that night, Jill arrived.  She's since taken an interest in televised sporting events, or so it seems.  She likes to hang out on the couch with her Dad and take in the action.  This weekend was her first trip out to see the game.  Of course in a new location (aka Heidi's house) there was far too much to see and do.  No interest in the game whatsoever.  But hanging out with Heidi and Houston?  Yes, that is something she enjoys very much!

Our Weekend in Maine, Complete with the Stomach Flu

Tony and I took Friday off from work and drove to Boothbay Harbor, ME fairly early in the day.  We made a pitstop in Gray, ME and met Terrance, Chris and Andrea's cat, and picked up Chris to come along for the ride.  And what a weekend it was!  Tim, Hesper and Cadence arrived early evening and we had a great night together.  We played cards, had a few (maybe a few plus a few) drinks and stayed up relatively late.  About 30 minutes later Tony woke up and ran to the deck to throw up.  I followed shortly after.  The stomach bug - which started at Jill's day care earlier in the week - ran through Tim and Hesper (forced to leave in the middle of the night on Saturday), Chris and Andrea.  Hopefully Cadence, Frank and Christine will miss it.  Something tells me they won't, unfortunately.  BUT despite the severe stomach bug with lack of running water, we actually had a pretty good time just hanging out.  You can't help but to relax with the amazing view at Chris's parents' house.  It's absolutely beautiful.  Here are a few pictures:

*Cheers to JPC*

A little Bob Marley and Stones.  Some Bailey's on ice.  An immediate family Cheers to my Dad around 8.

Today would be my Dad's 59th birthday.  He died two months before he would have turned 51.  It's been awhile.  Happy Birthday, Dad.  This post deserves more time, thought and consideration than I can throw into it tonight.  Too much celebrating (= too much Bailey's) so I'll leave that for another time.

I miss you and I wish you were here to see your amazing granddaughter!  Love you, Dad!!

School Pictures

I need to control myself here and not order the mega value pack of every single proof. These were taken at Jill's day care. We had no idea that professionals came in and did actual photo shoots. Jill apparently hammed it up the entire time. She's used to camera, that's for sure!

Social Network Disconnected, Revived in Person

This may be a non-Jill post. I'm not sure yet. A few paragraphs without Jill isn't really realistic but we'll see how it goes.

So my company announced that there would be layoffs (a workforce reduction, if you will) a couple months ago. My group indicated this will take place by Thanksgiving. I feel relatively safe but at the same time it wouldn't be smart to not update my resume and take a look at the job market. There's not much. It's causing anxiety in the office. It makes my chest hurt, slightly ... It makes me bitchy from time and time (ask Tony). So this week I updated my resume and started looking around. Hopefully I can stay at Genzyme but I also need to prepare in the event that I'm laid off. Happy Holidays! What awful timing for layoffs.

Facebook is also on my mind. I was highly addicted until last Saturday night at my Mom's when I drank a few glasses of wine and deleted my account. I felt liberated! I LOVED fb but was honestly spending too much time on it. I was obsessing over it: checking status updates at work and before bed. I was also tired of friend requests from pseudo friends. You know the "friends" I'm talking about. It's the people you knew in high school and college that you were never really close to. The people who want to spy. And you wouldn't mind spying on them either. Who did they end up marrying? Do they have kids? Where do they live and work? Did they get fat/attrative or not? You feel the need to spy until you have your own kid then the thought creeps you out.

Tony and I went out with friends Saturday night. We put Jill to bed at my Mom's then drove with Sarah to Swansea to Mel and Brian's house where Mandy and Whitey were already hanging out. We all went over to their favorite neighborhood bar - Benchwarmers - to hear a band Whitey liked. It was a really good time! Nice to have a few drinks and let loose a little bit (how old does that sound?!). We're actually going out to dinner with friends Mark and Ali (pictured above) tonight too. I swear we never have this much of a social life but Mark just accepted a job in Toronto and they're moving in two weeks! So my Mom is coming to the house early and we're headed to the new Seadog Brewery in Hull. It will be nice to catch up with them! We also plan to visit. Sounds like a road trip to include Niagra Falls.

Have you ever tried to pinpoint which language babies speak? Sounds like Russian to me!

The Comedian

Jill has been a joker-and-a-half with her buddy Rachael lately. Rachael is a bigger fan now that she steals Cheerios and banana puffs from the floor and licks peas and sweet potatoes off Jill's face.

It was party central Saturday night at Granna's house. Jill has been staying up about 1/2 hour later lately but is also sleeping later, which is fantastic on the weekend! Notice Jill's finger placement in the top photo. That's her response when I told her it was bedtime. It was like she was saying, "Not when I'm at Granna's!"

A vain 1o-month-old? Perhaps. Jill made a break for it Monday night during bathtime and quickly pulled herself up the back of the door to gaze into the mirror. Again, a comedian!
