Week One In the Books

We survived the first week of life with infant, again.  This time around seemed easier to tell you the truth.  Maybe it was our experience with Jill or the bigger house or the idea to sleep in shifts.  Whatever it is, I hope it keeps working.

Caroline is a good baby.  She's "aggressive" like a baby boy, my Mom says, but she's improved her manners while eating, and it seems like breastfeeding is going to work.  Fingers crossed.

She's a noisy napper.  So right now while she sleeps I'm allegedly supposed to be sleeping too.  But there's no possible way of that happening with my sweet Caroline next to me grunting and semi-snoring in all her slumber.  She got that from her Dad.  And I'm glad I got a nap in this morning.

It's almost 4 p.m. on the first day of being home alone with Caroline.  (Pause, I just went to the kitchen to preheat the oven for a roast, which is supposed to start cooking in six minutes.  I'm obviously not used to being home and in charge of dinner.) I'm categorizing the day as a success not based on the number of wet diapers but based on the fact that I brushed my teeth before 3:30 p.m.  That's a full 2.5 hours earlier than the first day (more like month) of being home with Jill.  And don't judge unless you're a Mom who has been on maternity leave.  And then - now that I think of it - you really shouldn't judge.

Caroline has already met some very important people.  Yes, she has many more to meet but she's off to a good start.  She's met Tyla, Amanda/Ava/Cullen, Nancy & Rob, Jess & Joe, Scott/Jess/Guy/Max and Mel/Brian/Cole/Emma, in addition to her hospital visitors Granna, Nana and Andrea (and Scott and Jess).  We've been touched by the friends and family who have reached out in one way or another and welcomed Caroline into their lives.  It is a special time!

Jill's friend, Lucy, and our neighbor Jenny dropped off this adorable card with mini banana bread muffins.

Jill is so proud to be a big sister.

She made the good news section at Nana's church service this weekend.
